Sriwijaya Air(flight code : SJ) is based on Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta. Tickets can only be purchased by phone or visiting one of their ticketing agents. Online bookings are not yet possible. Sriwijaya Air is listed in category 1 by Indonesian Civil Aviation Authority for airline safety quality.

The airline was established by Mr.Chandra Lie, Mr. Lie Hendri, Mr. Andi Halim and Mr. Johannes Bunyamin.

PT. Sriwijaya Air began service in November 10, 2003 with route Jakarta-Pangkal Pinang. Then new routes such as Jakarta-Jambi and Jakarta-Palembang was added. In their first year, Sriwijaya Air experienced a rapid growth. As of June 2009, Sriwijaya Air has been operating with 23 aircraft, serving more than 33 domestic routes and 2 regional routes; Singapore and Penang.

In 2007 Sriwijaya Air received an award from the Boeing International Award, Safety and Maintenance aircraft. This Charter was awarded by Boeing after passing the inspection carried put in a few months. In terms of security and service, Sriwijaya Air is the only airline that operates and maintains aircraft and still remain accident-free. The same year Sriwijaya Air received Aviation Customer Partnership Award from Pertamina because the airlines have assessed the accuracy of petroleum payment. In 2008 Sriwijaya Air was awarded an award by Markplus & Co.. This award is a public appreciation of the services provided by Sriwijaya Air. Aircraft Maintenance are done by PT. ANI (Aero Nusantara Indonesia), bringing expert staff from abroad who are already certified and experienced.

Sriwijaya In-flight Service : Media Indonesia daily, Sriwijaya Air magazine, Sky Shop and Snacks are provided on board. Sriwijaya is listed as medium-service airline.

A Sriwijaya Boeing 737-200 operating overran the runway at Jambi. There were eleven injuries and no fatalities. The injured include a farmer and his family who were hit by the plane. It was the only Sriwijaya Air accident.

Currently, Sriwijaya has 27 fleet among Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-300, Boeing 737-200 and 33 destinations overall. In Quarter I of 2010, Sriwijaya has carried 1.061.101 passangers or 15.9% of the market share. It increased one step-up pip The Batavia Air.
